Seminars/Workshops/Guest Lectures conducted in the academic year 2021 -22

The Department of English organised a seminar on 8th August 2022 on the topic Importance of Effective Communication. Mr. Terrance Richard, CEO OF Richie Films and a motivational speaker was the resource person for the day . He spoke on the importance of effective communication by offering a few tips in aiding communication such as preparing the mind of the listener, taking time to listen rather than interpret etc. He emphasised that the first step in effective communication was to be a good listener. Citing a few examples from his own experiences, he expounded on hypnotical communication. An activity ‘Chinese Whispers’ was carried out to highlight the barriers to communication. He also elaborated on visual communication and its effectiveness with a group activity wherein all the students were involved. Overall the session was informal and interactive and the students were motivated to put in practice the principles of effective communication they had learned.

  • Journalism Department conducted online webinar on the topic Career Opportunities In Content Writing For Women on 20th October 2021. The resource speaker for the session is Mrs. Ujwala Thirumurthy, content writer, Bangalore. The talk included the methods, importance of writing basically and went on to discussing about specific writing for various platforms such as blogs, websites, private companies and even media. Students enthusiastically received the benefit of the lecture and learnt varied opportunities in Journalism in general and content writing in particular.
  • The Journalism department also conducted a seminar for students of Bachelor of Arts on the topic Different applications of computers in Media on September 7th, 2022. The speaker Mr. Prashanth Bhola, an entrepreneur of a cyber-security firm called ‘Offensive Tech’ shared his knowledge various computer applications such as Adobe audition, Premier Pro, Photoshop, CorelDraw, PageMaker, InDesign and QuarkXPress which are widely used these days by the media in designing newspaper, magazine, videos and for producing audio also. Other topics that were touched upon are vlog, blog and their importance in current day’s scenario which is providing a platform for general audience or students to participate in the media industry as a citizen Journalist.
  • Psychology Department organized a seminar for students of Bachelor of Arts on the topic Mental Health and Depression on September 7th 2022. The speaker Mr. Shah Sharif, founder of Samarthan NGO Bangalore shared his life experiences and the practical knowledge of how to overcome depression and to have a positive mental health. He helped the students to let go negative feelings and not to hold grudge by demo activities. Overall the session was an interactive one where students also shared their views and gained practical knowledge. They understood the importance of maintain a well-balanced mental health.
  • The Department of Urdu organized a seminar for the Urdu students on the 25 th of February 2022. The resource speaker for the day was Dr. Fajeeha Sultana, Professor in Urdu, Govt. Arts College, Bangalore. The topic was Patras Kay Mazameen. She gave an insightful talk on the above topic.
  • The Department of Kannada conducted a seminar on 18 th February 2022. The topic of the lecture was Vachana Sahithyadha Samskrithika Koduge - Contributions of Literature to The Culture. The resource person for the lecture was Dr. Manjula . B. The lecture highlighted the significance of literature in the propagation of culture.
  • The Department of Botany conducted a seminar on 28/7/22. Dr. A.K. Bopaiah retired Botany professor from St. Joseph Degree College was invited as guest speaker. Sir gave a talk on Orchids - Lovely Citizens of Plant Kingdom. He presented a beautiful and colorful PPT and explained about the orchid’s morphology, types like sympodial, monopodial, epiphytic and terrestrial species. The session was so interesting, interactive and all the students enjoyed looking at amazing orchids and humorous and knowledgeable lecture.
  • The Department of Chemistry organized a One Day Seminar on 28th July 2022 on the topic Nanomaterials. Our guest speaker for the day was Dr. Mrs Jacqueline Rajamathi Head of the department of Chemistry, Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian College. The speaker gave an introduction to Nanomaterials and said that the nanomaterials are cornerstones of nanoscience and nanotechnology. The session was very interactive with a lot of new theories and ideology and interesting research articles for students. The speaker encouraged the students to have a passion for research and also gave tips on various scholarships and job opportunities in the field of chemistry.
  • The Department of Microbiology conducted a seminar on the title Microbiology - What Next??? Ms. Sanjana Sushravya , the clinical data Coordinator from ICON plc proceeded with her talk and explained the importance of getting to know your basics right and learn what you love with passion and achieve your goals ... She explained the career options and importance of Microbiology in our day-to-day life. The talk finished with a productive Q & A session and students hovered over to meet her in person and discussed carious other issues regarding jobs, careers and further study options to cater for their dream job. .
  • The Department of BBA conducted a seminar on 27th July 2022, the topic was Stress Management and Time Management. The speakers were Mrs. Sheema Shaheen and Mr. Sudarshan S. Savoora. The guest speakers belonged to Dayanand Sagar College of arts science and commerce, Bangalore. The first session was regarding Time Management and the students learnt about quadrants of time matrix, 80/20 rule, procrastination and tips to manage time. The second session was regarding Stress Management and the topics were factors of stress, sources of stress and learning how to overcome stress. Both the sessions were extremely helpful for the management students as they are the future corporate individuals who would be working under highly time consuming and stressful work environments. .
  • The Department of Computer Application organized a seminar for the students on the 24 th of February 2022 on the topic Career in IT. The session mainly focused on ethical hacking, where the students gained knowledge and hands on experience on Ethical Hacking through a demonstration. The students were also made aware of how people fall prey to fake websites and how such problems could be solved. On the whole, the student’s curiosity was raised and questions were asked during the interactive session. .
